What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are designed to be the most natural, durable, and functional way to replace missing teeth. These small titanium posts are surgically placed into the jawbone, where they act as artificial roots. Over time, they fuse with the bone to form a solid foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth.
Whether you’re missing one tooth or many, implants restore your ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence. They also help preserve your facial structure by preventing the bone loss that naturally occurs after tooth loss.
Each dental implant restoration consists of three key components:
The Implant Post – a small titanium anchor placed into the jawbone
The Abutment – a connector that attaches the post to the crown
The Restoration – a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture
Am I Eligible for Dental Implants
If you’re missing or have damaged teeth, dental implants may be the right solution for you. Most healthy adults qualify, and at SF Smile Doctor, we conduct a thorough evaluation to ensure your safety and long-term success.
You may be a good candidate if:
You’re in good general health
You’re experiencing tooth decay or tooth loss
You have enough bone to support the implant (or are eligible for a bone graft)
Your evaluation will include a detailed dental and medical history review, a 3D scan of your jaw, and a consultation with Dr. Kafayi to discuss your goals.

Dental Implants Before & After
The Dental Implant Procedure
The Titanium anchors, known as dental implants, act in place of the roots of missing teeth. They are inserted into the jawbone through a surgical procedure. The posts, which project from the gums and attach to the implant, creates secure foundations for artificial replacement teeth.
For the majority of patients, getting dental implants entails two separate surgical operations. Initially, these implants will be embedded in your jawbone. In the initial three to six months following the procedure, the implants remain under the gum line, bonding gradually with the jawbone. During this period of time, temporary dentures may be used for convenience. Simultaneously, Dr. Kafayi will creates the permanent bridge or denture that will both aesthetically and functionally enhance your teeth’s appearance.
Once the dental implant has adhered to the jawbone, Dr. Kafayi will initiate phase two of the procedure by uncovering it and attaching a minor healing collar. Taking an impression for your new teeth follows afterward. Posts or fasteners are then linked to the implants. Lastly, a mold is made for your replacement teeth above the posts or attachments, concluding the whole process that usually lasts from six to eight months with little impact on one’s daily routine.

What Are My Options for Dental Implants?
From single-tooth implants to full mouth dental implants, there are a few options available for restoring your smile, depending on your specific needs and goals. It’s important to know all of your dental implant options in order to make an informed decision.

Single Implant
Single dental implants are typically used to replace one missing tooth. A single implant is placed into the jawbone, followed by a porcelain crown that is placed onto the implant. This creates a strong, stable replacement for the missing tooth and looks completely natural.

Zirconia Fixed Bridges
For Patients who are missing some, but not all of their teeth may opt for a zirconia fixed bridge as opposed to full mouth dental implants. Fixed bridges use the same posts as dental implants to fuse to the jawbone and bridge the gap left by the missing teeth. This Procedure helps to preserve the jawbone health of the patient.

All on 4™ Full Mouth Dental Implants
All-on-4™ is a revolutionary technique for full-arch restoration using just four implants per arch. This approach avoids the need for multiple implants and extensive bone grafting, reducing both treatment time and cost. In many cases, a temporary set of teeth can be placed the same day, letting you return to normal life right away. Once healing is complete, your final bridge is placed for a beautiful, permanent solution.
