Inlays & Onlays: Durable Solutions for Tooth Restoration

Welcome to Implant SF
What Are Inlays and Onlays?
Inlays and onlays are custom dental restorations used when a tooth’s biting surface is extensively damaged. They can be made from porcelain, gold, or composite resin. An inlay fits inside the tooth’s cusp tips, while an onlay covers one or more cusps, offering more extensive coverage. Porcelain is increasingly popular due to its ability to blend with the natural color of your teeth.
How Are Inlays and Onlays Applied?
This procedure typically takes two visits. During the first appointment, Dr. Kafayi removes any damaged areas and takes an impression to create a custom inlay or onlay. A temporary filling is placed until the second visit. At the follow-up appointment, the permanent restoration is fitted, bonded, and polished for a seamless finish.
Why Choose Inlays and Onlays?
Unlike traditional fillings, inlays and onlays can actually strengthen your tooth by up to 75%. They’re durable, lasting 10 to 30 years, and provide a great option when the damage is too extensive for a filling but not severe enough for a crown.
