Consider the Options for Restoring Your Missing Smile

Welcome to SF Smile Doctor

Your Comfort. Your Smile. Your Confidence.

Whether you need a full set of dentures, partials, or a more secure solution like implant-supported options, we’re here to help you smile with confidence again. Dr. Kafayi offers personalized denture solutions designed for comfort, function, and natural appearance — all backed by experience and care you can trust.

Immediate Dentures

When complete extractions are necessary, immediate dentures can be the ideal solution. They allow you to maintain a natural smile without going a day without teeth. Preparation begins before your teeth are removed by taking impressions to create a custom denture. At your extraction appointment, the immediate denture is inserted to restore your appearance and function right away.

Since the denture is made before extractions, we may not be able to test the fit in advance. In some cases, esthetic adjustments may be needed to account for space or structural limitations.

Following post-op instructions is crucial. As your gums and bone heal, they’ll recede, so your denture may need several temporary liners or adjustments. Once healing is complete, a permanent reline ensures a long-term comfortable fit.

Note: Temporary liners and relines are separate services and may have additional fees. Dr. Kafayi will recommend the best plan for your needs.

Implant Retained Dentures

Implant dentures are a secure, stable way to replace missing teeth and improve your ability to eat, speak, and smile confidently. They offer support for both upper and lower arches and help preserve bone and gum health over time.

Lower Jaw Options

  • Ball Attachment Denture: Two implants are placed in the lower jaw, and a denture snaps onto them for better stability. There may still be slight movement, and food particles can cause irritation.
  • Bar Attachment Denture: Four to six implants are connected by a custom bar. The denture clips onto the bar, offering more security and less movement. It’s still removable for easy cleaning.
  • Screw Retained Denture: Five or more implants hold a non-removable denture in place. It doesn’t touch the gums and is only removed during dental visits. This option requires more effort to clean but offers the most permanent feel.

Upper Jaw Options: Because the bone in the upper jaw is softer, more implants may be needed. Some designs can eliminate the need for a full palate, allowing better taste and temperature sensation. These dentures are removable and easy to clean, yet feel more natural.

They offer improved confidence, better chewing ability, preserved oral structures, superior hygiene, and enhanced appearance — all of which support better nutrition and quality of life.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are used to replace one or more missing teeth and are custom-designed for your unique needs. They restore chewing function, improve speech, and help maintain a natural-looking smile.

They may be made of metal and acrylic or completely acrylic. Metal-based partials are thinner, more durable, and more hygienic, while acrylic versions are typically used as temporary solutions.

Dr. Kafayi will design your partial to distribute chewing forces evenly and may recommend slight adjustments to existing teeth to ensure a stable fit.

Soft Denture Liners

Soft liners provide a cushion between your denture and gums, absorbing shock and increasing comfort — especially for patients with receded or sensitive gums.

They can be used in both new and existing dentures, and while they offer easier chewing and better comfort, they require regular follow-up visits to ensure a proper fit over time.

Denture Rebase & Repairs

Rebase: Rebasing involves replacing the entire pink acrylic base of the denture while keeping the existing teeth. It’s ideal if your denture is cracked, old, or no longer fits well.

Repairs: Broken or damaged dentures can often be repaired the same day. Dr. Kafayi will evaluate the damage and help prevent future issues.

Denture Relines

Over time, your gum tissue changes, and your denture may no longer fit as well. Relining restores a snug fit without replacing the entire denture.

Hard Reline: Recommended every two years, this process involves reshaping the interior of the denture based on an impression of your gums.

Soft Reline: Ideal for patients with sensitive gums, this flexible material offers comfort and relief but may need to be replaced every 1–2 years.

Temporary Reline: If your gums are inflamed or swollen, a temporary medicated reline helps your mouth heal before fitting a permanent solution.

Denture Exams & Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures your dentures continue to function well and support your overall oral health. Annual check-ups with Dr. Kafayi allow for early detection of changes in your mouth or denture fit. During these visits, we’ll update your medical and dental history, perform an oral exam, and make any necessary adjustments to your denture to ensure continued comfort and effectiveness.
